Suspect to Appear in Court for Possession of Unlicensed Firearm in Sekhukhune District

Limpopo: A 39-year-old male suspect is set to appear before the Sekhukhune Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 29 September 2025, following his arrest for possession of an unlicensed firearm on Friday, 26 September 2025, at about 12:40, in Atok, Ga-Mpusheng village, under the Apel policing area in Sekhukhune District.

According to South African Police Service, police officers from Apel SAPS were on patrol duties when they received information about a suspect believed to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm. Upon arrival at the scene, the suspect attempted to flee but was pursued and apprehended. During a search, the officers found a firearm in his possession. When asked to provide a valid firearm license, he failed to do so and was immediately arrested.

The firearm has been confiscated and will undergo ballistic testing to establish possible linkage to other crimes.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the swift response by Apel SAPS members, affirming that the removal of illegal firearms from communities remains a key priority in ensuring public safety across the province.
