Kuruman Police Arrest Seven Suspects for Possession of Unlicensed Firearm and Ammunition


Kuruman: Two members attached to the Kuruman Crime Prevention Unit arrested seven suspects, aged between 19 and 31, for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Kuruman on Saturday, 27 September 2025.



According to South African Police Service, while conducting routine crime prevention patrols in Kuruman, the officers noticed a suspicious vehicle. They tactically approached the vehicle and requested permission to conduct a search.



During the search, police discovered a 9mm pistol with a tampered serial number and rounds of ammunition. All seven suspects were arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. They are expected to appear in the Kuruman Magistrate’s Court soon.



The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, commended the members for their vigilance and swift response to criminal activity. She reiterated that the police would continue, without relent, to clamp down on the proliferation of illegal firearms in the Kuruman area.
