Pretoria: The South African Police Service (SAPS) in North West Province is aware of a video circulating on social media platforms regarding an incident in which a 25-year-old boy hacked his mother to death at around 11:00 on Saturday, 04 October 2025, at Mosiane View village, Mahikeng. The son can be seen in the video using a shovel to hack his 48-year-old mother to death. It is alleged that the aggressive and uncontrollable son later succumbed to his injuries after being hit by one of the shots fired by a neighbour to calm him down. The motive of the incident is unknown at this stage and investigations into the matter are underway.

According to South African Police Service, the Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in North West, Major General Patrick Asaneng, described the incident as a sadistic, gruesome, and senseless death of a mother at the hands of her son. He noted that such acts are symptomatic of issues like satanic ritual practices or drug addiction, which are often ignored by parents and society. Major General Asaneng emphasized that there were likely warning signs in the suspect’s life, given the gratuitous killing of his own mother. Despite the son’s death after being shot, the SAPS Occult Related Crimes Unit will conduct a full investigation to determine the cause and effect of this tragedy.
