WESTERN CAPE – Operation Restore members are making inroads in communities who are vulnerable to gang violence as they are ridding the streets of firearms in the hands of criminals. The members were busy with stop and search operations in Jacaranda Street, Ravensmead area last night due to ongoing gang activities when they searched a male and found him in possession of a semi-automatic uzzi. The 29-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and resisting arrest.

Once charge the suspect will make a court appearance in the Goodwood Magistrates.

In an unrelated matter members of the Anti-Gang Unit arrested a 24-year-old male for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Lynstone Road, Hanover Park on Friday afternoon. The arrest followed after complaints of shooting in Hanover Park were received and the members were busy with crime prevention duties in the area. A 9mm CZ75 pistol and ammunition were confiscated.

The suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrates court on Monday 30 May 2022.

Meanwhile Western Cape detectives conducted tracing operations during the week and arrested 635 wanted suspects on charges ranging from murder, attempted murder, assault with intend to cause grievous bodily harm, assault, business robbery, domestic violence, sexual offences and possession of drugs, burglary and robberies.
