Swift response by police leads to the arest of nine suspects following a taxi related shooting incident in Fordburg

PARKTOWN – Police on Monday afternoon, 14 June 2021 at about 15:00, responded to a shooting incident and arrested nine suspects, recovering three firearms in Fordsurg, Johannesburg

Members were notified about a shooting that had just taken place in Fordsburg and the Highway Patrol and Crime Prevention teams were dispatched to search for the suspects.

Five patrol cars from one taxi association were damaged and one person was shot and declared dead on the scene.

Nine suspects that matched the description of the suspects who ran away on foot were spotted and police stopped them and they were arrested.

Upon searching the suspects’ car, police recovered three firearms which will be taken for ballistic to establish whether or not they may have been used in the commission of other crimes.

The suspects will be charged with murder and possession of unlicensed firearms. They will further be profiled to determine if they are not linked to other crimes, especially the taxi violence related crimes.
