Suspects to face court of law for the possession of unlicensed firearm charges

WESTERN CAPE – Ongoing efforts to create a safe and secure environment in our province and our communities led to the arrest of an 18 year male for the possession of an imitation firearm next to the Mandela stadium, Harare, Khayelitsha yesterday.

Members of Operation Lockdown II were busy with patrols as this area is a hotspot for robberies when they noticed four suspicious males walking together and when they saw the police vehicle approaching they started to run. One suspect was apprehended and found in possession of an imitation firearm.

In an unrelated matter Philippi East Crime Prevention unit members arrested a 22-year-old suspect for the possession of an unlicensed firearm in Kuluxhobo Street, Island, Philippi East yesterday at about 13:15. The members were busy with patrols when they noticed a male who started to run when he saw the police vehicle. The suspect was apprehended and a 9mm pistol was confiscated.

The suspects will make their respective court appearances in the Athlone and Khayelitsha Magistrates courts once they have been charged.
