Suspect arrested with illegal firearm

GQEBERHA – Swift action from Nelson Mandela Bay District Crime Combatting Unit members resulted in the arrest of a 34-year-old male and the confiscation of a 9mm pistol with ammunition.
It is alleged that at about 11:10 this morning, the members received and acted on information about a male in Standford Road in possession of a firearm. The suspect was spotted seated in a white station wagon vehicle. While exiting the vehicle after being instructed to do so, police members noticed a towel tucked in his pants. On searching him, a 9mm pistol was found in his possession. Police also noticed him hiding a box between the seats of the vehicle. Twenty four rounds of ammunition was found in a cigarette box.
The male was arrested and detained on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. Ownership of the firearm is yet to be determined. He is expected to appear in court soon.
