Suspect arrested for tavern shooting

FREE STATE – A 40-year-old suspect was arrested for the alleged murder of a man at a tavern in Meqheleng.

It is reported that on 18 February 2022, three unknown male suspects arrived at a local tavern armed with firearms and fatally shot one person at the gate and proceeded entering the tavern where they continued firing shots randomly injuring five patrons.

Ficksburg police opened cases of murder and attempted murder for investigation. The five victims were taken to hospital for medical attention.

Provincial Anti-Gang Unit was assigned to take over investigations and on 04 October 2022, members received intelligence on the whereabouts of one of the suspects. Members immediately proceeded to the identified house in Meqheleng where the 40-year-old suspect was found. He was arrested for murder and attempted murder. The manhunt continues for the remaining suspects.

The suspect will appear in court soon.
