Suspect arrested after he was found with a stolen vehicle and firearms

DURBAN – Yesterday afternoon the Ekuvukeni Visible Policing members were monitoring the area of Hlathi No. 3 whereby a group of about 2000 people were digging the field looking for a diamond.

While they were monitoring an information of a robbery of a motor vehicle came in and the police officers proceeded to Limehill turn off and the driver tried to make u turn. A chase ensued and the driver of the bakkie abandoned the vehicle and tried to flee on foot but he was caught and arrested.

The vehicle was searched and a pistol with no serial number, one rifle and 16, R303 rounds of ammunitions and 47 rounds of shotgun ammunition were recovered.

There were two suspects inside the vehicle but the other one managed to run away. The motor vehicle was taken to Ladysmith pound and the suspect was taken to Ekuvukeni police station for further processing. He will appear before Escourt Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 14 June 2021, facing possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunitions and also possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle charges.
