Provincial Extortion Task Team arrests suspect for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition

WESTERN CAPE – On Thursday 09 June 2022 at about 22:45 members of the Provincial Extortion Task Team were doing a crime intelligence driven operation, after they received information about an unlicensed firearm and ammunition at a premises in Vuyani Street, Khayelitsha.

After further investigation the members discovered inside the roof a silver firearm safe containing one Norinco Star firearm, with 13 x 9mm rounds of ammunition. The owner could not produce a valid firearm license. And was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and illegal possession of ammunition. The 47-year-old suspect will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates court once he has been charged.

In an unrelated matter, on Thursday, 09 June 2022, at approximately 23:30 members attached to the Provincial Extortion Task Team were busy doing patrols in Sweet Home Farm informal settlement when they received information about a drug house. The premises was searched and three firearms, 51 rounds of ammunition and a variety of drugs were found in the house. Two males aged 35 and 39 were immediately arrested for dealing in drugs, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and will appear in the Athlone Magistrates court once they have been charged.
