PARKTOWN – Three suspects aged 24, 27 and 31 were arrested in Vaal Marina soon after they attacked and robbed a family in a plot in Vaal Marina on Sunday 10 July 2022, at approximately 20:45.

Police received information of a farm attack and house robbery in progress at a plot in Vaal Marina near Heidelberg. Police were joined by private security companies that include Midvaal Peace Officers, Afriguard, VR Security and members of the Community Police Forum as they responded to the attack.

The team spotted the three armed suspects driving the victims’ Ford Ranger bakkie in the R549 direction of Vaal Dam. A high-speed chase ensued that resulted in the suspects’ vehicle losing control and driving through the fence into another farm. All three suspects were cornered and arrested. The members recovered two unlicensed firearms, cellphones and money suspected to be taken during the house robbery. One of the suspects was taken to hospital, under police guard, after he sustained injuries in his foot as he was trying to escape.

The suspects were charged with house robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms, attempted murder, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and possession of the suspected stolen property.

Once more, the Provincial Commissioner of the police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, commended the speedy response and collaboration between the SAPS and private security companies. Police in Gauteng remains committed to dealing with farm attacks and other forms of house robberies.
