CAPE TOWN – The protection of living marine resources remains key to policing priorities in the Western Cape and this commitment ensured that a suspected crayfish dealer found himself behind bars. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance in the Goodwood Magistrates’ court today.

Today, members attached to Operation Restore conducted an intelligence driven operation in the Goodwood policing precinct and arrested a 45-year-old male at a premises in De Villiers Street, Goodwood when he was found in dealing and contravention of Marine Living Resources Act 18 of 1998 Regulation 4 Section 1.

The members confiscated 622 units of crayfish tails and 75 whole crayfish with an estimated street value of R16 000. Upon a further search, the dedicated and committed members found a large amount of cash hidden in a drawer believe to be the proceeds of crime.
