New Jersey’s record-setting pace did not slow Saturday, as state health officials reported 16,626 new confirmed positive cases of COVID-19, pushing the figure to levels not previously recorded in the pandemic. The state also reported six additional confirmed deaths. Christmas Day was the third day in a row the state reported in excess of 15,000 cases. Thursday’s figure was 15,482, while Friday’s was 15,630. The seven-day case average, at 11,047, is the highest ever recorded.
