Minister Mondli Gungubele on the broadcast digital migration programme in Western Cape

When delivering his State Of the Nation Address in February this year (2023), His Excellency President Cyril Ramaphosa made a commitment to South Africans and said, “during the course of this year, we will migrate the remaining households to digital television signal and complete the switch-off of analogue transmission”.

In December 2022, a gazette was issued to consult the industry stakeholders in relation to the proposed date to end the dual illumination (Analogue Switch Off).

In line with the above, Hon. Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies will visit Western Cape Province, Theewaterkloof Local Municipality, Grabouw on Thursday, (18 May 2023) for BDM outreach programme.

The Minister emphasised that the revised Integrated Broadcast Digital Migration (BDM) and Analogue Switch-Off Implementation Plan is still firmly on course in South Africa and seek to improve media services to the society.

Qualifying households were all given the opportunity to apply and register to receive the government subsidised set-top-boxes before the closing date of September 30, 2022.
