Inter Club Football Club won the Henties Bay Harambee Charity Cup over the weekend, triumphing over Sundowns FC with a lone goal in the final match of an eight-team showdown.

In the semi-finals, Inter Club beat Kaizer Chiefs 2-1, while Sundowns prevailed over Classic Sports Betting Football Club with a 3-2 scoreline.

Inter Club received N.dollars 15 000, a trophy, and 20 gold medals, while Sundowns claimed N.dollars 7 500 and 20 silver medals as the runners-up. Both finalists were also awarded new outfits.

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs and CBS FC received N.dollars 3 750 each for their semi-final losses.

Andreas Ted Gaoab from Inter Club earned the top goal scorer title, while Moses Nanseb of Sundowns was honoured as the tournament’s best goalkeeper, and Melchior Doeseb from Inter Club was named the player of the tournament. Each of the players received N.dollars 200 and a trophy.

The tournament, marking its ninth year since its inception, saw participation limited to eight teams this time around due to scheduling conflicts in the Erongo Region and elsewhere. Despite the initially expected turnout of over 15 teams, the unregulated calendar allowed events to overlap.

Founder Michael Skini expressed his concern in an interview with Nampa, highlighting the need for organisers to align with the regional sports calendar to prevent such clashes. He said this situation places undue financial pressure on planned events and results in conflicts between organisers and participating teams over prize renegotiations.

The annual Henties Bay Harambee Charity Cup aims to support the less fortunate members of the Henties Bay community, particularly the elderly and individuals with disabilities. Additionally, the football tournament serves as a platform for identifying young talent across all professional football levels.
