Illegal firearm recovered and suspects arrested for serious crimes in Nyanga

Police actions and the vigilance of members in the Nyanga area led to the arrest of suspects on various charges.
Last night four suspects aged 24, 26, 27 and 31 were arrested for the possession of a hijacked vehicle in Dubu Street in Browns Farm. Members acted on information of a vehicle parked at a certain address and on arrival spotted the vehicle with no occupants. Further investigation led to the arrest of four suspects who were sitting inside a shack with keys belonging to the vehicle. During the search of the vehicle police recovered different cellular telephones not belonging to the suspects. The vehicle was reportedly hijacked in the Nyanga area.
A 25-year-old suspect was arrested in the early of hours of yesterday in possession of a hijacked vehicle, illegal firearm and 19 rounds of ammunition in Ramaphosa Informal Settlement in Browns Farm. Members attached to the Provincial Task Team acted on information and recovered a Pistol hidden under a pillow. The vehicle reported hijacked in Khayelitsha earlier this month.
Meanwhile a 21-year-old suspect is due to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate Court today on charges of rape. The suspect was arrested for allegedly raping his girlfriend over the weekend.
The two other suspects aged 31 and 34 appeared in Athlone Magistrate Court yesterday for the possession of stolen property.
