High police visibility during Operation “Vala Konke” yielded good results

EASTERN CAPE – Operating under the theme, “More boots on the ground towards enhanced police visibility”, is yielding good results as more police including Specialized Units members conducted Operation Vala Konke from Friday till Sunday and managed to arrest more than fifty suspects around policing precinct of Amathole District.
Police partake on foot patrols and the members of Specialised Units deployed in the District patrolled the areas in ensuring safety and security of the citizens.They were doing stop and search, roadblocks with the traffic department and R21 000-00 fines were issued. Shebeens that were operating illegally were closed and liquor was confiscated.
During the stop and search and patrols Police arrested suspects aged between 21 and 54 years for crimes ranging from possession of drugs, murder and Attempted murder, dealing in liquor without the licence, drunk and disorderly, assault and possession of illegal firearm. Police also engaged youth in sport against crime in Great Kei area in keeping them busy during the long weekend and take them out of crime activities.
All these suspects will appear in different Magistrate Courts around Amathole District tomorrow.
The Amathole District Commissioner, Major General Ngangema Xakavu commended the members for their dedication in fighting crime and that they ensure that perpetrators of crime are brought to justice. “We are going to continue with multidisciplinary operations by doing stop and search, foot patrols and roadblocks to ensure that our citizens are safe and secure,” he added.
