Five arrested with illegal firearms and ammunition

King Williams Town: The SAPS Technical Response Team (TRT) Unit members from Port Elizabeth arrested five suspects for possession of unlicensed firearms namely two pistols with ten (10) rounds of ammunition. The four suspects aged 21, 26, 27, 31 and a 25 year old woman were arrested on Sunday 03 June 2018 at about 00:15 along the N2 road near Bika Township, Butterworth. The suspects were driving towards Butterworth direction when they were pulled off the road.

One firearm had eight (8) rounds of ammunition whilst the other firearm had two (2) rounds of ammunition. The firearms will be taken for ballistic tests to establish if they were used in the commission of crime. The suspects will appear before the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 04 June 2018 on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Trevor Mey commended the TRT Unit for their swift actions and sterling crime fighting efforts as they have prevented a string of crimes following the arrests.
