Easter weekend operations led to several arrests

CAPE TOWN – Members attached to Operation Lockdown II received information about drugs, firearms and ammunition at a premises in Kalksteenfontein.

They immediately operationalised the information on 15 April 2022, at about 19:00, and searched the mentioned premises. The members found tik weighing 18,40 grams, mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R56 020 and a 9mm firearm. They arrested two suspects, aged 30 and 31, for possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of drugs.

In an unrelated matter, on Friday, 15 April 2022, at 19:10 members attached to Operation Restore followed up information about drugs at a premises in Coronation Street, Heinz Park, Samora Machel. Upon searching the premises, 121 packets of crystal meth (Tik) and 24 mandrax tablets were found and an undisclosed amount of cash was confiscated.

A 58-year-old male was arrested for dealing in drugs, he will appear in the Philippi Magistrates court on Tuesday, 19 April 2022 on the mentioned charges.

On Friday, 15 April 2022, at about 22:00, members attached to the Provincial Extortion Task Team (K9) recovered a hijacked/stolen vehicle. The members were busy patrolling whilst making their presence felt on the streets as the Easter holidays were in full swing. They spotted a suspicious grey Renault Megane in Luyolo Street, Mfuleni, and after having tested the vehicle, it was established that it was reported hijacked in Mfuleni. Members acted swiftly and the three occupants aged between 25 and 31 were arrested. The arrested suspects are due to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court once charged.

A member of Caledon police were doing visible policing patrols on R320 Hemel and Aarde Road direction Vlei View Caledon, when he noticed a person known to him, carry a large item covered in a grey top on his shoulders. He stopped and searched the suspect, and a large brown rifle was found in his possession. A 30-year-old man was arrested on a charge of possession of an antique firearm, housebreaking and theft. He will appear in the Caledon Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 19 April 2022 on the mentioned charges.

Meanwhile Operation Vutha Hawe tracing operations saw 474 wanted suspects, who found themselves on the wrong side of the law arrested during this week on charges of murder, attempted murder, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, assault common, house robbery, residential burglary, sexual offences, domestic violence and possession of drugs and firearms.
