Collaborative efforts and crime intelligence driven operation lead to the arrest of murder and robbery suspects

POTCHEFSTROOM – A Crime Intelligence driven operation by the Rustenburg Detectives, Phokeng K9, Public Order Police (POP), and the Criminal Record & Crime Scene Management (CR & CSM) members resulted in the apprehension of three suspects, on Tuesday, 07 February 2023, for business robbery, murder and possession of unlicensed firearm.

Preliminary reports suggest that a group of armed men allegedly shot and fatally wounded a security officer who was responding to a robbery of a supermarket in Zendeling Street, Rustenburg on Sunday, 29 January 2023.

An intense and intelligence driven investigation that was launched after the incident, led the police to the arrest of the first suspect at a hospital in Rustenburg where he was admitted and treated for a gunshot wound. Further investigations led the team to a house in Ramochana and Sunrise Park outside Rustenburg where two suspects were arrested respectively. The suspect arrested in Ramochana, was found in possession unlicensed firearm with a serial number filed off, five cell phones and 56 memory cards.

The suspects, aged 23, 30 and 38 are expected to appear in the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 10 February 2023, on charges of business robbery, murder and possession of unlicensed firearm.

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, congratulated all the units involved for working tirelessly to bring the alleged perpetrators to book to face the full might of the law.
