Assistance sought to identify unknown body

Potchefstroom: The police in Mooinooi request members of the community to assist in identifying the body of a man estimated to be in his thirties.

The headless body was found lying in the street on Thursday, 29 March 2018 in Mooinooi. He was found wearing a brown t-shirt, blue jersey, black pair of jeans and a brown waist belt.

The police request anyone with information that may lead to identification of the body or locating the family of the deceased to call Detective Sergeant Sello on 079 357 4633.

Update on police manhunt for suspects who hijacked a traffic officer

Through preliminary investigations on this matter including the massive manhunt, the Police managed to recover the alleged getaway vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, abandoned with the engine idling in the Thate Vondo plantation near Phiphidi village.

At this crime scene, the items were recovered including one firearm which is believed to be one of the firearms used by the suspects, cell phones, traffic uniform and other items. The Traffic Officer’s firearm is still missing.

The suspects are still on the run and the Police in Thohoyandou are still following them after they hijacked an on-duty Traffic Police Officer this morning.

It is alleged that a 35-year-old Traffic Police Officer was on official duties alone at about 09:00 along the Makonde and Luvhimbi public road near Thohoyandou.

He stopped a Toyota Corolla, metallic gold in colour and the occupants thereof pointed him with fire arms, forced him in their vehicle and drove off towards Thate plantations.

On arrival at these plantations, they stripped him off his uniform, took his official firearm, all his belongings and they shot him before they fled leaving him there.

The matter was reported to the Police who reacted swiftly and subsequently, the motor vehicle which was being used by the victim was found abandoned at Makonde village.

The victim sustained serious gunshot wounds during this incident and he was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

The Police have since opened cases of carjacking, kidnapping, attempted murder and armed robbery.

The suspects involved in this matter are still unknown and there is no arrest.

Kimberley SAPS investigate hit and run case

The Kimberley SAPS Serious and Violent Crimes Unit are investigating a hit and run after a 37-year-old female was allegedly killed by an unknown vehicle in Pniel Road, Kimberley. On Saturday, 7 April 2018 at about 01:00, the female allegedly tried to cross the road when she was bumped by an unknown vehicle. The deceased known as Judith Khonza resides in Pniel Road and died on the scene. Police request that anyone with information please call D/Warrant Officer Kenneth Lamoen on 082 302 0407 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111. All information will be treated with the strictest of confidence. The investigation continues.
