Police arrest Nigerian men for dealing in drugs

Nigerian men arrested for dealing in drugs worth R2 million

The South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB) have on Wednesday arrested two Nigerian national for dealing in drugs worth an estimated value of R2 million in Braynston, North of Johannesburg.

Hawks members received a tip off about an illegal business at the suspects’ dwelling in Braynston and further investigated the matter. Police searched the premises and recovered plastics with residue, undisclosed amount of money, and drugs 7kg of Ephedrine and 2.5kg of Cocaine worth an estimated value of R2million.

The suspects aged 42 and 44 will appear before the Randburg Magistrates Court on Friday, 25 November 2016 for dealing in drugs.

Deputy Minister Mduduzi Manana officially opens CETA/Gert Sibande Skills Development Centre

The Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Mr Mduduzi Manana, MP, will visit the community of Bethal, in the province of Mpumalanga to officially open the CETA/Gert Sibande Skills Development Centre, on Monday, 28 November 2016.

The centre has already begun training of 200 youth in Community House Building L2 qualification. Students have received theoretical training at Gert Sibande TVET College. The construction of the skills centre was used as a practical work place for the students. On the day of the launch, 19 of these students will officially graduate as they have successfully completed both theoretical and practical requirements.

This is the government’s intervention to bring skills development and training to underserved communities in a bid to expand access to post-school education.

Public Works officiates graduation ceremony of 40 Pharmacy Assistants in Pretoria

The National Department of Public Works, through its Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), will tomorrow, 25 November 2016 officiate the graduation of 40 EPWP participants who were successfully trained and found competent by the Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority (HWSETA) on the 12 months Pharmacist Assistant Programme NQF Level 3 Learnership Programme.

The objective of this graduation ceremony is to officially honour the 40 EPWP Participants who are now qualified as Pharmacist Assistants as regulated by the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).

These EPWP participants (Pharmacy Assistants) are currently working in both private and public health facilities within Gauteng Province. The 40 EPWP participants form part of the ongoing government work of creating over 6 million work opportunities by 2019.

Background of the Training:

The National Department of Health, working with the National Department of Public Works’ EPWP Branch, started implementing the EPWP Pharmacy Assistant Programme in 2015. The programme is a sub-programme within the EPWP Social Sector. This Learnership Programme is a government training initiative aimed at addressing the challenge of skills shortage with the pharmaceutical industry.

The learners were recruited from the Gauteng Department of Health database within the Home Community Based Care Programmes. The Learnership Programme commenced in May 2015 and ended in February 2016. It was implemented by Foundation for Professional Development (FPD) as contracted by the DPW/EPWP.

Public Works hosts Youth Dialogue session

The National Department of Public Works will host a Dialogue session for youth on 28 November 2016 at North West 405 Local Municipality formerly known as Tlokwe Municipality before the incorporation of Ventersdorp Local Municipality.

The Dialogue session is aimed at young people up to the age of 35, who will form part of discussions which will expose them to empowerment opportunities that are offered by the National Department of Public Works.

Three hundred (300) young people who are unemployed and out of school, including those with disabilities from Tlokwe and Ventersdorp region are the main targets of the dialogue session. The Department of Public Works is playing an important role of empowering young people by offering those deserving ones bursaries to pursue built environment discipline. It also provides them with opportunities in the Department through the Human Capital Investment (HCI). Among those who will participate in the dialogue is National Youth Development Agency and Expanded Public Works Programme’s Vuk’uphile.
