Home Affairs hosts inaugural Naturalisation Ceremony

The Ministef of Home Affairs, Malusi Gigaba, will on Wednesday, 29 June 2016, host the inaugural Naturalisation Ceremony in Johannesburg.

At the ceremony, newly recognized citizens will swear their allegiance or affirmation to the Republic of South Africa and receive their Naturalisation certificates. Citizenship by Naturalisation us acquired when a person has been an authentic Permanent Resident Permit holder for a period of 10 years, and had applied for; and been accorded a certificate of Naturalisation by the Minister of Home Affairs.

Labour hosts Wholesale & Retail Sector Seminar, 28 to 29 Jun

The Department of Labour’s Inspection and Enforcement Services (IES) branch will hold a two-day major seminar for the Wholesale and Retail sector at the Strand Tower Hotel in Cape Town.

The seminar, from 28 to 29 June 2016 is part of the Department of Labour’s IES education advocacy campaign to highlight compliance with the labour laws within the Wholesale and Retail sector in South Africa’s workplaces.

The seminar is held under the theme: “Working together to achieve compliance in the Wholesale & Retail Sector”. The previous time the department held a similar seminary was in 2013 in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

The two-day seminar is expected to be addressed by Department of Labour Deputy Director-General, Aggy Moiloa; Department of Labour Statutory Service and Advocacy Chief Director Fikiswa Mncanca; Department of Labour’s Employment Standards Director, Stephen Rathai; and Public Employment Services Chief Director, Esther Tloane.

There will also be speakers from the Department of Labour’s two entities – the Unemployment Insurance Fund, the Compensation Fund, the Occupational Health and Safety unit, the International Labour Organisation, employer organisation and labour federations.

The seminar’s topics will focus on the challenges faced by the sector in relation to compliance, challenges on employment of illegal immigrants in the Wholesale and Retail Sector, relationship between application for work permit and scarce and critical skills, and transforming informal to formal economy among others.

Limpopo sends condolences on passing of MEC Joy Matshoge

The Limpopo Provincial Government is mourning the passing on of MEC Joy Matshoge last night in a car accident between Mookgophong and Mokopane on the N1 highway heading South.

Premier Chupu Mathabatha send his heartfelt condolences to the Mashego and Matshoge families, relatives and colleagues. Mme Joyce Matshoge was a visionary, dedicated and hard working. She worked tirelessly to ensure food production and food security is taken to greater height in the Province.

MEC Matshoge’s experience and knowledge will leave a huge gap in the provincial cabinet. She spend the whole day yesterday at Gilimburg Citrus Estate with workers and management. Her death is a great loss to government and agricultural community.

As the Provincial Government, we call upon people to support the family during this hard time. Details of the cause of the accident are still under investigation, the media and the public will be updated on the matter.

She was appointed the Member of Executive Council for Agriculture and Rural Development on May 2014 by Premier Chupu Stanley Mathabatha. Mme Matshoge worked at Modimolle local municipality as Manager: Waste Management under Social Services, Waterberg District as Director responsible for Social Services.

She served as member of Provincial Legislature in various portfolios and Deputy Speaker. During her time at the Legislature, Joyce Matshoge Chaired Portfolio Committee for CoGHSTA and served as a member for various committees like Public Works and Social Development.

Gauteng Legislature launches second Annual Vita Basadi Awards, 28 Jun

Honourable Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL): Ntombi Mekgwe, invites all media to a briefing aimed at officially launching the second Annual Vita Basadi Awards and opening up the nominations process to the public. The Vita Basadi Awards is an initiative of the GPL, launched as part of Women’s Month commemoration in August 2015.

The Awards are aimed at recognising excellence by the women of Gauteng in various areas of work and/or acts of service to fellow citizens without the means to help them. Targeting women in media, politics, arts, music, entrepreneurs, private companies, the youth, veterans and activists, the Awards are scheduled for 25th August 2016. Hon. Speaker Mekgwe will address members of the media on this year’s Vita Basadi Awards categories and highlight the significance of the initiative.

The media briefing will precede the GPL’s 2016 Children’s Sector Parliament, to be hosted under the theme ‘Following up on our commitments to the Children of Gauteng’. The purpose of the Children Sector Parliament is to empower children to participate in legislative processes and to encourage the born free generation to be part of influencing and shaping good governance in the post 21st years of South Africa in democracy.

Statistician-General Pali Lehohla releases Financial Census of Municipalities 2015 results, 29 Jun

The Statistician-General of South Africa, Dr Pali Lehohla, will release the results of the 2015 Financial Census of Municipalities at a media briefing to be held on Wednesday, 29 June 2016 in Pretoria. The survey collected a variety of financial information from local, district and metropolitan municipalities.

The results present various financial statistics on municipalities in South Africa, including income sources (such as government grants, property rates and service charges) as well income levels. The report will also outline how municipalities spent the money received through grants and subsidies, and generated through rates and service charges.

Other municipal financial information such as asset-liability ratios, volumes of bad debts, expenditure on personnel costs and remuneration of councillors will also be presented at the media briefing.
