As part of TCL’s “Smart Home” strategy, the TCL Big-Eye Crystal is a smart WIFI-enabled roller washing machine. By combining a 3D sensor, auto-speed measurement, triangulation technology, and an intelligent processing chip, the TCL Big-Eye Crystal allows for intelligent real-time washing, remote control and monitoring of washing data, as well as energy-saving washing management. Two patented technologies revolutionize the washing process: a redesigned cylinder featuring an interior-convex honeycomb crystal inner cylinder, and a new process for the delivery of the detergent and water featuring indirect detergent foam delivery and waterfall-washing process. These paved the way for the design of a smart washing machine that delivers a new experience in terms of the washing and the post-wash handling of garments.

The identically-rounded corners and the slightly-curved surface as well as the top gold-cut cambered surface and ellipsoid shape give the washing machine its unique character and distinctive air of elegance while expressing the innovation in TCL’s manufacturing technology. In addition, the extra-large 490mm window coupled with the oversize door and inner cylinder allow users to clearly observe what is going on in the machine during each step of the wash cycle.

The award-winning TCL Big-Eye Crystal was jointly created by the White Household Appliance Division of the TCL Home Appliance Industry Group, part of the world’s leading consumer electronics manufacturer TCL Corporation, and designaffairs, a leading design firm based in Germany. To support the development of the TCL Big-Eye Crystal, the manufacturer and the design firm created a world-class research and development center for furthering their collaboration in research, marketing, and product strategy, as well as in industrial and interactive design, to ensure compliance with German design and precision standards.

The TCL Home Appliance Industry Group’s White Household Appliance Division has been handling the sales and servicing of TCL-branded refrigerators, washing machines, and freezers for 16 years and has grown into China’s most promising major home appliances manufacturer, with departments dedicated to product development, marketing, and sales. According to TCL Corporation’s general brand consultant Yuki Wei, the TCL Big-Eye Crystal washing machine fully embodies the message behind the Group’s slogan “The Creative Life” – creating a better life for users by innovating technological products.

Government Monitors Progress At Sol Plaatje University

Progress on the construction of Sol Plaatje University in Kimberley will come under the spotlight this morning when Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training Mduduzi Manana visits the site.

The Deputy Minister and his delegation will interact with the university management, project team and contractors on site to have a thorough and concise report on the progress made thus far.

“This visit forms part of an ongoing monitoring exercise by government to ensure that projects are implemented as planned and challenges are identified and rectified early to allow for speedy intervention and ensure timeous delivery,” spokesperson Sibusiso Mlangeni said.

Sol Plaatje University is one of the three new post-apartheid universities. Others include the University of Mpumalanga and the Sefako Makgatho Health and Allied Sciences University – which is a result of the unbundling of Medunsa from the University of Limpopo.

Mlangeni said the new universities will go a long way to increasing access to post-school education and training (PSET).

The establishment of the new universities will also contribute to the National Development Plan goal of increasing higher education enrolments by 2030.

Op-Ed – Police Minister Nhleko, It’s Time to Recall Ntlemeza – Re-Instate Dramat [analysis]

Criticism and condemnation of those in high office have become somewhat standard in our political life even, the president does it sometimes. But it is, still, rare for a judge sitting in a high court to call a senior police officer a liar.

Rarer still to say that officer is “without honour”. And even rarer to add that he “lacks integrity”. When the subject of this stinging public crucifixion is a police officer who was put in charge of the top investigative unit in the service under questionable circumstances, it suddenly throws into relief what most of us guessed all along. The bid to remove Shadrack Sibiya as Gauteng head of the Hawks, and Anwa Dramat as national head of the Hawks, has been political, underhanded, and altogether wrong.

The backstory to this particular saga has managed to become quite complicated in just three months, even by our warped South African standards. But, in one paragraph:

In November the Constitutional Court ruled that the head of the Hawks could only be suspended or removed through a Parliamentary process. In December, Police Minister Nathi Nhleko suspended Dramat, saying the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), which wins the inaugural…

Suntech Opens Warehouse in Cape Town [press release]

New facility will reduce delivery time of modules sold to Suntech customers

Wuxi Suntech Power Co., Ltd. has officially announced the establishment of a local warehouse in Cape Town, South Africa. This new facility will initially store 500kW of modules and will expand its storage capacity to 1MW later in 2015. Suntech established a full time presence in South Africa in 2014 as part of its expansion efforts in the region.

“The opening of a local warehouse in Cape Town will allow Suntech to increase its sales capacity in South Africa, and in the South African Development Community, which serves as a free trade zone. We are also eliminating the effort involved in the PV modules shipping and importation procedure, which will help our customers to better plan their project schedules,” said Joey Zheng, Regional Director to Suntech’s Africa and South Asia markets. “With a growing number of sales to larger scale projects, we will now be able to assure that all of our customers will have their products within 24 hours after purchase, whereas previously it took 40 days for modules to be delivered from China,” Zheng added.

Recently, Suntech supplied 100 MW of its high-efficiency PV modules to two projects selected during the Department of Energy’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Program’s (REIPPPP) first bid round.

“Under the ownership of Shunfeng Clean Energy (SFCE), Suntech has the gest balance sheet in the industry and was recently added to Bloomberg New Energy Finance’s (BNEF) Tier 1 solar company list,” said Victor Xiong, President of Wuxi Suntech. “We are now part of the largest integrated clean energy generation company in the world. I am confident that our partners and customers will see how our clean energy ecosystem brings value to solar energy development, which is especially relevant in supporting the growing electricity needs in South Africa and in the wider region,” he added.

Suntech will be present at Power amp Electricity World Africa 2015 in Johannesburg from March 24-25, 2015. The team will be exhibiting the following products: a solar home system, which is an all-inclusive DC power system, the STP265-20Wem and STP315-24Vem modules for on grid systems, and the STP140D-12TEA and STP085D-12BEA modules for off-grid systems.
